JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) - Cheers echoed across the Jackson County boardroom Wednesday as the planning commission denied a zoning change of more than 100 acres in Vancleave.
“I believe the character of the neighborhood has not changed to such an extent to justify the rezoning and that a public need does not exist for rezoning, as evidenced by the information supplied,” said Dina Holland with the Jackson County Planning Commission.
Developers proposed a 90-lot subdivision for the land off Old Fort Bayou Road. This land is approximately half a mile away from another subdivision that is currently under construction.
Vancleave residents who spoke out say that too much development is erasing the rural lifestyle they love.
