KILLEEN, Texas — After more than a year in the Bell County jail awaiting trial, Demetrius Jones is back home in North Carolina with his family. The former Fort Hood soldier was accused in the murder of fellow soldier Sgt. Francine Martinez in 2021.

In July, the father of Martinez' child, Nakealon Mosley, was convicted of the murder and was sentenced in September to 60 years in prison .

Investigators say Mosley shot and killed Martinez after an argument outside a Killeen nightclub. Jones, Mosley's roommate at the time, has maintained his innocence and defense attorneys say he wasn't at the scene.

Prosecutors pushed forward with a murder trial, which was set for Sept. 15, 2025. The Bell County District Attorney's office filed two motions for continuance but they were denied. As jury sel
