AUGUSTA, Ga (WJBF) - A new room a Piedmont Augusta is helping support families preparing to bring a newborn home.

The new family room will help ease parents transition from the NICU to home as well as providing hands-on learning with staff members.

The woman in charge of the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit at Piedmont Augusta tells me many times parents are anxious and scared to take their newborns home when they have been used to being able to ask nurses for help.

“Maybe the babies are going home on a home monitor, or maybe they're going home on oxygen or maybe they have medications that they need to learn how to give so that they have the built confidence and that help to alleviate a lot of the fear and anxiety that they have,” said Teresa Dye, Clinical Manager of the Neonatal Intensive
