NORTH READING — There’s a lot of pride that comes with winning even a share of a Cape Ann League title, something the Lynnfield field hockey team felt the sting of barely missing out on last year by tying its regular-season finale when it needed a win.
By beating reigning Kinney division co-champion North Reading, 2-0, on Wednesday, though, it’s been all wins thus far for the No. 21 Pioneers (5-0) at the start of a bit of a revenge campaign.
The Hornets (4-3) defense gave Lynnfield fits scoring, but goals from Izzy Fiorentino and Sophia Morgese were enough to carve out a signature league win, two weeks after the Pioneers beat the other reigning co-champion, Newburyport, in the opener.
“I think for this team this year, they still feel the burn of that tie from Pentucket at the end of the
