ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Albany County Sheriff's Office held a swearing in ceremony on Wednesday for 17 new recruits. They will start a 27-week academy on Monday and are expected to graduate in April 2026.

The sheriff's office said that if all 17 recruits graduate the academy, the department will be fully staffed. The swearing-in was held at the former College of Saint Rose campus where the new sheriff's substation will be.

"We'll be coming up here, which I think in general, it's going to let us provide better service to our constituents," Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said. "There's parking.
