WALLINGFORD, Conn. — Connecticut Foodshare is receiving a sizable donation from Philip Morris International’s U.S. businesses to help fight food insecurity across the state.

PMI U.S. announced the $100,000 donation on Wednesday. It was made in recognition of Hunger Action Month.

Connecticut Foodshare, a nonprofit organization dedicated to curbing hunger locally, will use the money to provide approximately 200,000 meals to residents who are food insecure.

According to Connecticut Foodshare, more than 516,000 people – or one in seven residents – are food insecure in the state. This includes one in six children.
