LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Hispanics make up the majority of students in the Clark County School District. However, unfortunately, Hispanic and Black juveniles represent the majority of those in the Clark County Juvenile Justice system.

Sheree Corniel began Real Talk Youth Impact more than 10 years ago with the aim of keeping children away from the criminal justice system.

"I grew up in a family of 12, eight boys and four girls. I'm number nine, and six of my brothers ended up in the system," Corniel said.

Corniel chose a different path and served more than 20 years in law enforcement.

In high school, she played competitive softball, eventually getting a scholarship to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and representing Puerto Rico in softball in the 1996 U.S. Olympic Games.
