[CEDAR FALLS, Iowa] — The Iowa Board of Regents is calling for investigations into staff social media posts at the state's three public universities.
After a three-hour closed session today, the board directed universities to investigate any alleged violations of board policy, including those related to freedom of expression.
According to the board's social media policy, employees are allowed to express opinions on their personal accounts but must clarify they do not represent the university. Official university accounts are reserved for institutional purposes and should not be used for personal political commentary or advocacy.
Universities have two weeks to conduct these investigations. Employees under investigation must be placed on leave or removed from the classroom.
