PAINESVILLE, Ohio (WOIO) - Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the latest Northeast Ohio law enforcement agency to partner with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“We have signed two agreements with Immigration regarding the 287g program,” Sheriff Frank Leonbruno said in a press release. “It should be noted we just received the signed agreements back last week and still need to complete specific training before we can begin limited participation in the 287g the program.”
The 287g program enhances the safety and security of the nation’s communities by allowing ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations to partner with state and local law enforcement to identify and remove criminal aliens who are amenable to removal from the country, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
