Van Meter's public works director says the city is already seeing results from the irrigation ban put in place on Monday .

According to the director, Drew McCombs, a major lack of rain that caused "less-than-ideal surface moisture" is what caused a significant demand in irrigation. He tells KCCI the ban was put in place due to the major stress that put on the city's water infrastructure due to irrigation.

McCombs says many people use a garden hose and lawn sprinkler to deal with the dry conditions. He also says there are more than 110 accounts with registered irrigation meters. According to McCombs, there are some houses that have used more than 100,000 gallons through registered irrigation meters in less than a month's time.
