HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu’s interim police chief says HPD is working to crack down on excessive overtime . This comes after HNN Investigates revealed officers working in some cases 90 hours a week.

Interim police chief Rade Vanic says with overtime widely available officers can retire earlier with fewer years of service because it’s more lucrative. He also pinpointed officer shortages. HPD is short a total of 460 officers, that’s 21%.
Vanic says officers can work two extra days a week and the pay adds up quickly.
“Wow you must have to work this tremendous amount like you must have to work double shifts, 24 hours a day, seven days a week to make 100, $250,000 dollars. Oh my God. You must be killing yourself
