MALDEN, Mass. —

A Malden school resource officer was reassigned after they made comments in relation to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the town's police chief announced Wednesday.

In a statement, Chief Glenn Cronin said the officer was moved back to the patrol division after they made comments on social media about Kirk's murder.

"As Chief of Police, I have the responsibility and authority to make assignments that best serve our department and our community. A recent personnel reassignment was made in light of social media comments related to the Charlie Kirk assassination," the statement read. "While I will not be discussing the specifics of personnel matters, I can confirm that the officer in question has been reassigned from the School Resource Officer position back to the patrol
