The state minister for roads and regional transport has admitted that the Goonoo Goonoo Road redevelopment has been "a challenging one".

Jenny Aitchison was asked about progress on the multi-million dollar project during a recent Estimates Hearing.

MLC Mark Banasiak asked the minister to confirm the start and finish dates.

"Another project that went nowhere under the last government is Goonoo Goonoo Road up Tamworth way," he put to the minister.

"It was first promised in 2019 and then re-announced at the 2023 election by the local member up there.

"It has now been partially revived.

"Can you confirm an exact start and completion date for the northern section and give some clarification of a timeline for the southern section, given the community has waited two elections for this?"
