Environmental groups are calling on volunteers to roll up their sleeves and join in the effort to protect San Diego’s waterways.

We Clean Trails, The Friends of Rose Creek and I Love A Clean San Diego are teaming up to host a cleanup along Rose Creek in Pacific Beach Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon as part of the annual Coastal Cleanup Day.

“By 2050, there could be more plastic than fish by weight in the world’s oceans if we don’t defend our waterways from litter,” said Karin Zirk, executive director of Friends of Rose Creek. “Reduce waste at this year’s cleanup by bringing along your own wagons and buckets, work gloves and reusable water bottle.”

Volunteers should meet at Mission Bay High School, 2475 Grand Ave., in the faculty parking lot on the east side of campus overlooking Rose Creek
