Missouri U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt is urging federal officials to designate Fort Leonard Wood in southern Missouri as a training site for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
Schmitt made the comments during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing in Washington, D.C.
“Fort Leonard Wood, which I’m sure you’re familiar with in the great state of Missouri, has a lot of land and has a number of missions, including training our military police and has also been the home of the Army’s criminal Investigative Training Special agent training efforts,” said Schmitt. “So, it’s well positioned.”
Schmitt said the training is in line with military capabilities.
“They’re not performing a law enforcement function but rather sharing their knowledge with agents who are charged with enforc
