Thunderstorms brought heavy rain to Sioux Falls and other parts of eastern South Dakota late in the day Sept. 16.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning shortly before 8 p.m. that included parts of Lincoln and Minnehaha counties after a storm rapidly formed over southwest Sioux Falls and led to reports of small hail and wind gusts.
In some areas of Sioux Falls, the storm dropped as much as 2 inches of rain in a short period of time, potentially causing "very temporary flooding" in places with poor drainage, the weather service said.
More rain could be on the way, too. The National Weather Service expects the region will experience occasional showers and thunderstorms through Sept. 19, with conditions expected to improve after that.
