A pilot in his 60s is missing after a light plane crashed in rural NSW.

The aircraft took off at 11am from Bankstown Airport and was flown to Mallacoota in Victoria before turning back and disappearing over Budawang National Park.

Emergency services confirmed the location of a crash site at Wog Wog, 35 kilometres west of Ulladulla.

The plane came from Bankstown Flying School.

A rescue helicopter has been deployed.
