COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Supreme Court of South Carolina has dismissed an effort by the League of Women Voters of South Carolina to challenge the 2022 Congressional district lines drawn by state lawmakers.

The justices handed down their opinion Wednesday, stating they couldn't get involved in what essentially is a political issue and ended the effort for the lawsuit to go forward.

LWVSC had asked the court to strike down the plan passed by the South Carolina General Assembly, contending the plan was an "extreme partisan gerrymander" that violated several provisions in the state's Constitution: the Free and Open Elections Clause, the Equal Protection Clause, the Free Speech Clause, and SC Constitution article VII 9 & 13, which the League refers to as the "whole-county directive."
