TennCare recipients who lose their health coverage have the right to an appeal hearing before an impartial judge. That protection could disappear under a proposed rule change.

An estimated 1.4 million Tennesseans receive health care coverage through TennCare, the state's Medicaid program, and every year they must complete a paperwork-heavy reenrollment process.

Tennessee Justice Center, a nonprofit organization that advocates legally for vulnerable residents, said this change could be devastating for those who struggle with the many forms needed to retain coverage.
