A man who “advanced” toward Chicago police officers with a large knife was shot and seriously injured by police late Wednesday in Austin.
Officers noticed a man brandishing a large knife in the street and walking toward people around 11 p.m. in the 5200 block of West Madison Street and told him multiple times to drop the weapon, Chicago police said.
The man then advanced toward officers, who tried to use their tasers to no effect, police said.
As the armed man continued to approach, one officer fired their weapon and struck the man, officials said.
He was taken to an area hospital in serious condition, authorities said.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability were investigating and the officers involved in the incident will be placed on routine administrative duties for at least
