A number of council nominees with “openly extremist” views do not reflect the community’s values, according to Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley.
Ms Beazley spoke in parliament on Thursday in response to a question about the upcoming October local government elections.
She did not refer to any nominees in particular but said electors should be careful when voting for candidates who may not hold the community’s views.
“It is extremely disappointing and concerning that there are several candidates with openly extremist views based in hate and prejudice who have chosen to nominate for this year’s local government elections,” she said.
