Hamblen County Register of Deeds Jim Clawson expressed his concern about unscrupulous companies sending out mailers, emails and text messages about services that the companies charge hundreds of dollars for, yet services that his office can provide free of charge.

Clawson also offers a “Property Scan Alert” program that is free of charge to property owners.

“Security is like a chain,” he said. “We are only one link in the chain that protects us against property fraud, deceptive marketing tactics and more.”

Clawson said that in the last year, there has been more pressure exerted from different sources coming against our lines of defense in protecting private property ownership. The links include title companies, real estate agents, notaries public and to his office staff.
