With the renewed race to the moon, primarily between the U.S. and China, NASA’s Artemis 2 crew is preparing for their upcoming mission. Scheduled for early 2026, the launch will send four astronauts on a moon flyby, while the Artemis 3 mission aims to land humans on the lunar surface in 2027.

To get ready for lunar landings, astronauts train in environments similar to the moon’s terrain. The High-Altitude Army National Guard Aviation Training Site in Colorado is ideal for this purpose. Managed by the Colorado Army National Guard, the site helps NASA simulate the challenging slopes, shadows, uneven surfaces, and dynamic lighting conditions astronauts might encounter when landing on the moon.
