If you're turning on First Take on ESPN this week and wondering why you're seeing Stephen A. Smith as host and pundit, we're here to help. Because Molly Qerim's absence isn't just this week.
As Qerim revealed on Instagram amid reports of her departure at the end of the year from the morning show and the network, the longtime host said she's "decided it’s time to close this incredible chapter and step away from First Take." Later on that Tuesday, Smith hosted and delivered a tribute to open the show. He also took time on his radio show to address the "abrupt" Qerim departure.
So it seems like that's it for Qerim at ESPN and the show she's called home for a long time.
Why did Molly Qerim leave ESPN?
It hasn't been fully reported yet, but Smith hinted at contract issues as negotiations were going on.
Who will replace Molly Qerim on First Take?
We're also unsure of this one, but we came up with some ideas.
Is Stephen A. Smith going to be the permanent host of First Take?
He's on our list but given all of his other duties at ESPN and beyond, we're guessing no.
