Cheeseburger lovers can rejoice on Thursday, Sept. 18, just a few months after National Hamburger Day in May.

The hamburger is known as one of the most popular dishes in the U.S., as Americans eat around 50 billion each year, according to History.com .

Pasadena, California, claims to be the birthplace of the cheeseburger, with a 16-year-old short-order cook serving the first one more than 100 years ago in a local roadside hamburger stand. Other spots claiming the cheeseburger's birthright include Kaelin's restaurant in Louisville in 1934 , credited with naming it a "cheeseburger."
