A senior law enforcement official familiar with the matter says police arrested a Texas man for allegedly making threatening phone calls to New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist whose pledged policies have roiled Washington in recent weeks.

Details on the nature of the calls weren't immediately clear. The senior official says the NYPD had been investigating communications to Mamdani and his campaign dating back to June. They were able to trace the calls to Texas, with the help of the FBI and local agencies, and arrested a suspect from Plano.
