Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray issued a public apology on Wednesday for a social media post that showed him wearing a Virginia Tech Michael Vick jersey while posing with one of his two dogs.
Murray deleted his Instagram post on Tuesday. Vick, the former Atlanta Falcons star QB, served 21 months in federal prison after pleading guilty in 2007 to operating a dogfighting ring. Vick’s prison sentence forced him to miss the 2007 and 2008 NFL seasons.
“In no way, shape or form do I condone animal cruelty or dogfighting,” Murray told reporters during a news conference. “For me personally, y’all saw me wear the Michael Vick jersey, a player that I admired very much growing up. … In no way, shape or form am I condoning that.”
