LISBON : Portuguese club Benfica have appointed Jose Mourinho as manager for the second time, their President Rui Costa said on Thursday.
The former Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Inter Milan head coach, who left Turkey's Fenerbahce in August, began his managerial career at Benfica.
"My promise is: I will live for Benfica, live for my mission," Mourinho told reporters at the club's training ground in Seixal, near Lisbon.
"I'm not important - Benfica is important, Benfica fans are important. I'm here to serve."
Mourinho's contract extends until the end of the 2026/27 season but both sides reserve the right to cancel it up to 10 days after this season's last game, the club said in a filing to the stock market regulator.
