ATLANTIC CITY — City Council recognized a Philadelphia teen Wednesday for helping save a swimmer in distress last month.

Demetrius Montague was on the beach with his family near Bally's Atlantic City on Aug. 30 when he went into the ocean around 1 p.m. and noticed an individual face down in the water.

Montague tapped the person on the shoulder, and when he didn't receive a response, he used the waves to bring them closer to the shoreline, where members of the city's Beach Patrol spotted both Montague and the person and brought them to shore.

The person regained consciousness and received medical attention before being released.
