(KRON) -- A man was killed and a woman was hospitalized after a vehicle struck a cement wall in San Jose on Tuesday, according to authorities.

The San Jose Police Department responded at 11:05 p.m. to the 100 block of Madrone Avenue on the report of a solo vehicle collision. Arriving officers located a woman, determined to be the driver of a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, suffering from critical injuries. A man who was a passenger in the Jeep was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was stabilized.

Crash investigators said the Jeep was traveling westbound on Madrone Avenue, west of Dougherty Avenue, when it struck a cement wall at a creek crossing.
