WASHINGTON — Thursday marks one of the most important holidays on any calendar: National Cheeseburger Day.

And with the arrival of such an important day, restaurants around the country are celebrating with deals on one of the most popular foods in the U.S.

The national "holiday" isn't really a holiday, but it is listed on the National Day Calendar under Sept. 18. It's a sister holiday to National Hamburger Day, which comes at the end of May and celebrates one of America's favorite foods.

In fact, Americans each year consume about 50 billion burgers each year, according to All About Burgers. That's about half of the 100 billion eaten throughout the world.
