GAINESVILLE — Florida’s lack of sacks prevented the Gators from gaining any momentum in last weekend’s 20-10 loss to No. 3 LSU. The 0-fer should be listed in the post-mortem of another loss in Death Valley.

Sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway’s five interceptions wielded the most severe blow in a demoralizing defeat, a game that UF (1-2) could’ve won. But a cure to the Gators’ woes this week at No. 4 Miami could lie in whether the defense pressures Lagway’s counterpart, Carson Beck.

Florida has just two sacks this season, one by Tyreek Sapp and another split between George Gumbs Jr. and Kamran James. Getting to the quarterback 19 times during a season-ending four-game winning streak in 2024 was as critical as Lagway’s ability to attack defenses down the field.
