LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Kentucky State Police provided an escort as the remains of US Air Force SSG Henry Gerald Gish were taken to Berea, more than five decades after he made the ultimate sacrifice in the Vietnam War.
SSG Gish’s remains arrived at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport Thursday morning and KSP troopers led a procession of law enforcement officers to Berea where he was laid to rest with full military honors.
In March 1968, he was assigned to a classified radar site in Laos during the Vietnam War. Gish, along with 10 other Americans, were killed after being overrun by Vietnamese commandos. Gish was declared missing in action.
His remains were recently discovered and identified after extensive efforts.
