The Iowa high school boys state wrestling tournament will have a new order of events starting in 2026, according to a memo sent to wrestling coaches and administrators on Sept. 18.

While the tournament will remain four days long, only one of the three classes will compete across all four days each year. Class 3A will participate across four days in 2026. After that, each year the class that will compete over all four days will rotate between Class 3A, 2A and 1A. The other two classes will compete in just three of the four days.

Additionally, the schedule change brings all classes together on Friday for the semifinal matches, which run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Previously, the semifinals ran from morning until night on day three for each class.
