COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Air Quality Alert has been issued for central Ohio on Friday as ozone levels are expected to be elevated.
According to the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, upper-level high pressure over the Great Lakes will inhibit mixing and at the surface, calm to light northerly to northeasterly winds will reduce dispersion of thin smoke and other pollutants. The warm, sunny weather will continue to allow ozone development.
The AQI, meaning Air Quality Index, is forecasted to be 101 on Sept. 19. The levels are considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.
The AQI scale runs from 0-500, where the higher the AQI value is, the greater the health concern. When levels reach above 100, air quality is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups, prompting MORPC to issue an Air Qualit
