Colorado Mesa University is reviving a proposal to build a team facility for its football program at Stoker Stadium in Lincoln Park.

CMU President John Marshall presented the plan to the City Council at its Monday workshop. The proposed two-story building would be located behind the south end zone and would be funded entirely by the university. Typically, upgrades to the stadium have been done with funding from the stadium partners — CMU, District 51, the city and JUCO.

“Our sense is that the mandatory minimums in this facility would need to be locker rooms, athletic training space, meeting space and coaches offices,” Marshall said. “I don’t think we could afford to build a weight room training facility on it to begin with.
