CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Update (9/19) : A Charlotte man is facing a first-degree murder charge after police said he shot and killed another man during a fight Thursday afternoon in Uptown.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to Brevard Court for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died, police said. That victim was later identified as 20-year-old Jahday Humphrey.
According to police reports, the suspect, Jarius Tamaal Jackson, stayed at the scene and turned himself in.
The deadly gunfire unfolded in broad daylight, raising concerns about safety in an area known more for lunch crowds than violent crime.
