Boyle Heights -- Los Angeles police Thursday released the name of the officer who shot and wounded a suspect who allegedly pulled a handgun during a foot chase in Boyle Heights.

Francisco Garcia, 30, was wounded about 10:45 p.m. Sunday after officers with the Hollenbeck Gang Enforcement Unit tried to stop him near the 2400 block of Boulder Street, just east of North Soto Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The suspect ran from the scene, leading officers on a short foot pursuit to the rear alley of an apartment complex, police said.

Garcia "fell while running between residences and produced a handgun from his waistband area, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting," according to the LAPD.
