The Winnipeg Police Service has launched a new safety strategy aimed at curbing violence and disorder on the city’s transit system, following a record-setting number of incidents last year.
Police say 325 violent crimes were reported on Winnipeg Transit buses and at bus stops and shelters in 2024 — nearly triple the number recorded in 2019. That trend has continued into 2025.

Beginning this week, officers in both uniform and plain clothes will be riding buses and patrolling high-risk transit locations. The initiative, announced Tuesday in partnership with the City of Winnipeg, will focus on preventing, detecting and suppressing crime on and around buses.
