Washington ― As the U.S. and China move to finalize a TikTok deal , Michigan U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar is raising concerns about its reported reliance on an algorithm that could allow continued control or influence by the Chinese Communist Party over users of the social media platform.
The weighing in by Moolenaar, a Caledonia Republican and TikTok critic, is key as he chairs the House Select Committee on China that is watching whether the licensing deal meets the terms of the bipartisan law passed last year requiring TikTok parent ByteDance to divest control or stop operating in the U.S.
