LOGAN COUNTY, Arkansas — According to the Logan County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), an unidentified 70-year-old man died after drowning in Jack Creek near Booneville on Sept. 16.
The water was about seven or eight feet deep in the area that the man was scanning with a metal detector, breathing apparatus, and weighted vest, LCSO says.
The man's brother, who was on the shore at the time, reportedly saw the man surface, "remove his mask and breathing apparatus, gasp for air, then go underwater."
LCSO responded to the scene, alongside local fire departments and emergency services. The man was found dead underwater, and his body was recovered, LCSO says.
