Former Florida pitcher Philip Abner was promoted to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, Sept. 18.
Abner, 23, registered 70 strikeouts, 16 walks, and recorded a 3.07 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP in 58.2 innings.
The left-handed reliever climbed the system quickly, registering just 8.1 innings, 11 strikeouts, three walks, while not allowing any runs for Triple-A Reno.
Abner was taken as the 175th overall pick in the sixth round by the Diamondbacks in 2023.
At Florida, Abner helped the Gators reach the national championship in 2023. In that season, putting up a 3.16 ERA with 51 strikeouts and 19 walks.
Just two weeks prior, former Gator Brandon Sproat made his debut with the New York Mets. In two starts, he struck out 10 batters, walked four and allowed three earned runs in 12 innings.
