Congressmembers on the U.S. House Natural Resources subcommittee debated policies during a hearing spotlighted as “Unleashing Alaska’s Extraordinary Resource Potential.”

Republicans argued that the Trump administration’s push for oil and gas development on the North Slope benefits the state and national economies. At the same time, Democratic lawmakers noted that cutting funding for renewable wind and energy projects has harmed Western and rural Alaska communities.

The House subcommittee heard testimony from three Alaskans with differing viewpoints on the direction Alaska’s energy potential should head.
