Restaurants at Oklahoma state parks will close Sept. 30, the Department of Tourism and Recreation said Thursday in a brief press release.

Grab-and-go meals will be available after the Lookout Kitchens restaurants cease operations, according to the release.

The department's latest attempt to provide food services at six of its most popular and remote parks has been fraught from the start with delinquent payments from the operator.

Since 2019, the state has spent at least $17 million refurbishing existing facilities and building new ones in an effort to make the state parks more attractive to potential users.

Lookout Kitchens took over the restaurants in 2023 after a dispute with the original contractor, Swadley's, resulted in several investigations
