LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky’s newest degree offering will prepare students for a futuristic workforce. Last week, UK’s Board of Trustees gave approval for a degree in artificial intelligence.

Brent Harrison is a professor in UK’s computer science department. He said that offering a Bachelor of Science degree in artificial intelligence has been approximately two years in the making.

“What we’re hoping is that we’re kind of on the cutting-edge of this; we’re definitely kind of getting in early and staking our claim,” Harrison said.

Once approved by Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; UK will be the first higher education institution to offer AI as a four-year degree in the Commonwealth.
