The Battle Creek Planning Commission and the City Commission may decide how the property that comprises the Riverside Golf Club and Banquet Center is rezoned in the coming weeks. That decision could signal the end of the nearly 100-year-old golf course.

The city’s Planning and Zoning Administrator Travis Sullivan confirmed that the planning commission will first discuss the application submitted by Birmingham-based private equity and development firm Interstate Capital during its regular Sept. 24 meeting.

While the current owner of the property is Riverside Golf and Land, LLC, a third party can submit a zoning request on behalf of the current owner with that owner’s written permission.

“That’s what has happened here,” Sullivan said.
