LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An animal rights activist is trying to change a law that prohibits the holding of deer in Chronic Wasting Disease Surveillance Zones, including Meade, Breckinridge and Hardin counties.

This comes after a rehabilitation center in one of these zones was required to surrender 22 fawns kept at their facility to be euthanized by the state.

Former county commissioner Misti Drew, who served on the Kentucky State Animal Control Board from 2017-23, continues to advocate for animal rights in Kentucky.

“When you know what’s right in your heart and you don’t see that reflected in legislation, it’s time to make a change,” Drew said.

Drew recently started a petition requesting Kentucky’s wildlife laws be reevaluated and reformed.
