NORTH BERGEN, N.Y. (PIX11) — For nearly 25 years, trailers inside North Bergen’s Braddock Park served as pre-school classrooms for the town’s youngest students.

The district had been in the process of trying to build a permanent pre-school building on the property, but decided to drop those charges last week. Community activists see it as a win.

“I’m happy that we’ve scored a victory here,” said Mark Bloomberg. For years, Bloomberg has been one of the faces of a grassroots movement to move the pre-schoolers out of the park.

“One, it just didn’t seem like a safe environment for the kids and secondly, it seemed like a land grab by the Town of North Bergen,” said Bloomberg.

Bloomberg believes the trailers violate New Jersey’s Green Acres Law and wants the land repurposed as open space.
