WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - When the Kansas Legislature meets in 2026, lawmakers will consider a resolution that could have a big impact on your taxes.
In March 2025, Kansas State Rep. Blake Carpenter from Derby introduced the “Freedom From Taxes Fund”, HCR 5014 .
His idea was to form a board that has the authority to eliminate sales tax exemptions in Kansas. That money would be put into a fund that would go toward offsetting property taxes.
Rep. Carpenter said it would start with vehicle property taxes, which would take about six years. Then expand to state property taxes, then income taxes.
