Harris County commissioners raised red flags about a possible conflict of interest after District Clerk Marilyn Burgess voted in a salary grievance committee to increase her salary by $81,000.
The potential conflict, which legal staff said didn’t appear to be illegal, prompted Commissioner Adrian Garcia to call for the issue to be placed on the county’s next legislative agenda.

The potential salary increase — which would’ve raised her pay from $179,000 a year to $260,000 a year — appeared to die after commissioners on Thursday did not take up a vote on the request.
